As we continue in our journey through the book of Revelation by looking at the 5th Trumpet, we will immediately notice two things,
1. These next 3 Trumpets are significantly more serious than the first 4,
Revelation 8:13 (ESV) Then I looked, and I heard an eagle crying with a loud voice as it flew directly overhead, “Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, at the blasts of the other trumpets that the three angels are about to blow!”
2. While the first 4 Trumpets related to creation as God’s warning instrument, the next 2 Trumpets deal with a judgment that comes from a far more sinister place, Hell to be exact.
Revelation 9:11 (ESV) They have as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, he is called Apollyon.
However as daunting as this may seem, and even though these judgments are severe, they are judgments birthed from God’s mercy as He tries to warn a world that has turned its back on Him, to “WAKE UP“. Our job as His church is to simply heed these warnings and then go and tell a lost and dying world that there is Hope, one that can only be found in repentance and submission to the finished work of the cross.
