The Westminster Shorter Catechism asks a critical question of all of us today i.e., “What is the chief end of man?”. The answer – “Man’s chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy him forever.”
You see, in contrast to the monastic division of life into sacred versus secular (perpetuated by the Roman Church), the reformers saw that all of life was to be lived under the Lordship of Christ which means no matter what we do, every activity of our lives as Christ-followers is to be sanctified “unto the glory of God”.
So with that said, Soli Deo Gloria (our final Sola) is the glue that sticks all the other Solas together and sums them all up i.e., there is nothing that we bring that is of any significance, instead, It’s all about what God has done for us i.e., His excellencies, His fame, His renown or said another way = Only God deserves the Glory (SDG).
